COMMANDER ANOWON UPGRADE
She runs ], ], ], and ] to steal the best stuff in any graveyard. This week's tune up is an upgrade of the Zendikar Rising precon featuring Anowon, the Ruin Thief. ] is pretty good in the deck too.Īlthough milling everyone out isnt the goal, Anowon does fill up peoples graveyards so having a few ways of taking advantage of that is good. I know it will be tough to keep pulling off longterm with a consistent playgroup, but lasting till late game when everyones life is low rather than going all out early has really helped her.Īlso, both the Sakashimas and ] work great in the deck as everything Anowon does can be doubled with them making your creatures bigger, making your opponents mill more cards, and drawing more off each attack. Anowon, the Ruin Thief is your Commander in this slightly more focused version of the Zendikar Precon Deck this version focuses more on the attacking and damage side of the deck with the draw ability of Anowon, the Ruin Thief being more incidental for card draw and advantage than being the focus of milling your opponents. Then she started sandbagging a bit in the early game trying to seem less threatening. We added more interacting such as spot removal and counterspells to control the board and protect all her creatures from boardwipes. She found that changing her play style was the best thing rather than changing the deck too much. Its really the same issues most tribal, aggro, or weenies decks have and thats the massive life total of 3 players starting with 40 life each. My wife has this deck and has similar issues with closing out the game. Obviously, if you have some suggestions not related to the main topic of the post (wincons), I'll gladly listen to them anyways. I'd really like to know what you think about the deck and what you'd do to improve it. There are combo lists, token lists, aggro etc., but I don't necessarily have to be prepared for everyhting, it's ok to be weaker against some strategies. My playgroup is diversified, with most decks being optimized, I'd say power level 7-8ish, with no cEDH lists. A 2/4 Vampire Rogue for four mana, Anowon provides each other Rogue under its owner's control with +1/+1, causing players dealt combat damage by Rogues to mill a number of cards. Generally speaking, the more we stick to the OG plan of winning through combat, the better. Anowon, the Ruin Thief is a commander that single-handedly brought Rogue creature-type decks from obscurity to one of the most popular strategies for a Dimir deck. Commander 1 Anowon, the Ruin Thief: 5.34 tix Creatures (30) 1 Changeling Outcast: 0.03 tix 1 Merfolk Windrobber: 0.03 tix 1 Slither Blade: 0.03 tix 1 Triton Shorestalker: 0.03 tix 1 Faerie Vandal: 0.02 tix 1 Frogtosser Banneret: 0.03 tix 1 Invisible Stalker: 0.02 tix 1 Nightveil Sprite: 0.03 tix 1 Oona's Blackguard: 0.03 tix 1 Soaring Thought. Plus, I don't really know what to cut in order to make room for this kind of strategy. I was thinking about going for extra turn spells but some of them are really expensive and I'd like to stay on a more honest budget (I only have ] right now, but I'm open to buy the more affordable ones if necessary). There's already a mill player in our playgroup and I think that one is more than enough. Notice that I don't want to win by milling by any means. My initial goal was to win games through combat, but even if setting the board up for a significant swing doesn't take that long, I think that a good board draws too much attention from the opponents, forcing you to try and close the game quickly without having a proper way to do it (besides Notorious Throng maybe, which is the closest thing to a finisher that I have in my list). The problem that I'm facing is that in most cases I find myself not capable of converting this huge card advantage into a proper way to close out games. swinging with evasive fellas and generating A LOT of card advantage. I built this deck paper recently and I quite enjoy playing it right now. I'm here to ask some advices for my Anowon, the Ruin Thief list that you can find here: Hi fellow planeswalkers! I hope everyone is safe and doing fine.
